Let's take a step back and look at the big picture. First, the tetra-chord is invaluable to building a melody. Look at this chord as a single unit to be applied in different places. Build this melodic chord off any note you choose. Move two frets higher and build another one. The last note of the second chord and the first note of the first chord is your keynote. We build our melody and harmonic chords from these two melodic chords.
